The Frenchtown Elementary School PTG, COA and Experiments in Theater present Biomes: Animals and Plants in Their Habitats written by Ron Fink and John Heath and directed by Mackie Saylor.  Performances will take place at The Odeum on Main Street in East Greenwich on Friday, April 10 at 6 PM and Saturday, April 11 at 2PM.  Tickets are $5 each and may be purchased in person at Main Street Music, or by calling The Odeum at 401-884-1430 or online at www.theodeum.org.

Biomes is a 45 minute musical theater production that chronicles the journey of three precocious escapees from the zoo — an African Elephant, a Kingsnake and a Hercules Beetle, who are on a quest to find their right Biome.  This unlikely trio travels around the world through the Arctic tundra, the deserts of central Asia, the Rainforest and the grasslands of the Serengeti and encounter the many different plants and animals who are adapted to these and other habitats.  Along the way, our three explorers make new friends, confront predators and learn a lot about the wonderful world we all share.

Director Mackie Saylor, a recent graduate of the Conservatory of Theater Arts at Webster University in St. Louis, MO, is both new to Rhode Island and new to the Experiments in Theater team, led by Valerie Remillard Myette of North Kingstown.  “I consider theater and theater education my life’s work,” says Miss Saylor. “It has been such a privilege to work with these young, talented actors. They are just beginning their journey in the arts, and I’m so happy they have found their own little biome in rehearsal where they can open up and be themselves. I can’t wait to see where they’ll go from here.”

Biomes features over 80 Frenchtown Elementary School children in grades K-2 who have been rehearsing since early January for this special event.  The performance will begin with an opening song from the Kindergarten participants who will also lead the entire audience in a sing along at the end of the show.  Biomes is a family-friendly event and is appropriate for children of all ages.
